Naked uses Intel® RealSense™ Technology and a process called stereovision to create your body model.
The sensors use infrared light in a manner similar to an Xbox Kinect or your TV remote control, and the processor in the mirror stitches together your body model before running proprietary algorithms to extract your measurements and calculate body fat percentage.
Naked has developed a proprietary body fat algorithm validated against DXA using a combination of metrics extracted from your scans.
We will continue to refine this algorithm and add more data and metrics to improve body fat % accuracy over time.
Naked has a depth map accuracy of approximately 1/10 of an inch. This translates to +/-15mm accuracy for large circumferences (waist, shoulders, etc.) and +/-5mm for small circumferences (biceps, calves).
The mirror is designed to be connected to a 110v grounded outlet via a 3-prong grounded cable.
The scale is powered by a lithium-ion battery and charged via a USB-C cable that is connected to the base of the mirror.
Traditional bioimpedance scales are typically +/-8% accurate and can be especially susceptible to factors like skin conductivity and hydration.
DEXA, typically considered the gold standard, uses X-Ray to measure body composition with +/- 1% accuracy.
Volumetric methods (like hydrostatic weighing and Bodpod) use displaced water or air to measure your body volume, with approximately +/- 1.5% percent accuracy.
Naked uses a proprietary algorithm that relies on a variety of metrics extracted from your scan to calculate body fat with +/- 2.5% accuracy.
Absolutely! We have a video here where we show you the technology inside Naked and explain in greater detail how Naked works.
You can also read more about Naked's technology on our Tech Specs page.
Naked’s turntable can measure weights up to 330 lbs.
The maximum user height is 6 foot 6 inches (198 cm). The minimum user height is 3 feet 3 inches (100 cm).
While we have previously expressed the intent for a 6 user limit, we have no intention at the moment to enforce that limit in the near future. We want to encourage as many people as possible to try Naked. Happy scanning!
No, you can wear whatever you are comfortable with, but for best results, we recommend underwear or compression shorts for men. Women can wear underwear or spandex and bra. Whatever is exposed is measured.
There's no set rule for when to scan, but we recommend getting scanned once a week in order to capture changes in your body. That being said, the more that you get scanned, the more insights we can provide you about your body.
While Naked was designed to be a consumer device, we allow our users to scan and store as many profiles as they would like. Users can download the app onto their own phones, and then connect to your Naked via their phone's Bluetooth. Keep in mind that because we originally built this product for the home, using Naked in a commercial setting, especially a large one, is something we do not recommend. If you do choose to use Naked in a commercial way, please keep in mind our warranty lasts for one year or 2,000 scans, whichever comes first. You can read more about our warranty here.
If you are interested in participating in our commercial pilot, please send an email to gym@nakedlabs.com, and we’ll get in touch.
